At Carmel & Naccasha, LLP, we are deeply saddened to hear about the devastating fires that are ravaging our friends, colleagues and families across Southern California. We are incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of the first responders and nonprofit organizations that are providing much-needed aid to the Los Angeles region.
We know that many LA residents are facing questions and concerns regarding their insurance policies, specifically whether they are covered for property damage, personal injury, temporary relocation expenses or other losses resulting from these fires. While we are unable to opine on whether individual claims are covered, we strongly encourage both individuals and businesses to reach out to their insurance brokers to put their carriers on notice of any claim, ask what assistance is immediately available, and ask what steps an insured individual or business should take to document a loss and facilitate payment. For those who do not have wildfire insurance, governmental assistance may be available through FEMA or local agencies.
We wish everyone in the affected areas strength and safety during this difficult time. For those in our community who would like to help those affected, the San Luis Obispo Community Foundation (www.cfsloco.org) recommends the California Community Foundation Recovery Fund (https://www.pledge.to/ccfwildfirerelieffund) as having vetted credible organizations that will directly fund those affected by the fires.
