The Brown Act
Attorney David Hirsch of Carmel & Naccasha, LLP, recently conducted a training session for the Cambria Community Services District Board of Directors, its Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission and the District’s Standing Committees to help navigate the intricacies of the State’s Open Meeting Law, the Brown Act.
What Was the Purpose of the Meeting?
The Brown Act presentation included discussion of the law’s purpose, legislative intent, and who is subject to it. Hirsch covered such topics as what constitutes a meeting, the types of meetings, how the law guarantees the public’s right to participate in meetings of local legislative bodies, and various provisions relating to government officials holding their meetings in compliance with agenda and public notice requirements.
