Maren Hufton’s Biography

With over 15 years of experience, Maren focuses her practice on litigation, ethics, and compliance, while offering risk-weighted and practical business advice.

Her deep understanding of federal law and government processes supports companies and organizations, and their officers and shareholders, seeking compliance and governance, investigations, labor and employment, insurance, and litigation counsel.

Before her move to the central coast, Maren focused on investigations and enforcement defense while a partner at a large Orange County-based law firm. In her next venture, she gained significant client-side experience as a compliance professional in the public sector at a nationally-ranked university.

Maren has served as outside general counsel and in both compliance officer and hotline monitor roles. She has addressed whistleblower, securities and other financial, data privacy, FCPA and Anti-Kickback, labor and employment, civil rights, and other compliance issues, having handled matters before a host of agencies and regulators, including both the civil and criminal divisions of the DOJ, SEC, FINRA, FDA, FCC, FDA, EEOC, DOE OCR, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce, state agencies like the California Department of Corporations and DFEH, and state and local law enforcement authorities in California, New York, Florida, among others. Maren also advises regarding white-collar concerns posed by government investigations.

Maren’s thorough, yet cost-effective approach to fact-finding, makes her an exceptional investigator. She identifies evidence and problems quickly, assesses liability, and offers solutions to navigate challenging issues. She has litigated numerous disputes in federal and state courts, including securities class action, qui tam, and False Claims Act matters.

A Pepperdine-trained mediator, Maren has experience with administrative hearings, alternative dispute resolution, discourtesy and bias community facilitation, and restorative justice solutions.

Maren is active with the Women Lawyers Association San Luis Obispo, and the proud parent of two SLCUSD students. The Huftons reside in San Luis Obispo, near Maren’s parents and her sister – a Cal Poly Proud grad. Maren enjoys fitness, book clubs, and hiking with her labradoodle Barley.
