Shell Beach Elementary held a 5K Fun Run on the beach in Pismo Beach on Saturday, September 8, 2012. This was the first ever Shell Beach Elementary Fun Run organized by the Shell Beach Parent Teacher Organization. The event was such a success it will surely become a tradition for years to come.
In addition to the many Shell Beach Elementary families and staff, many members of the community came out to run and support Shell Beach Elementary. There were also quite a few dogs that came out with their masters for a run on the beach. Over 150 people ran in the Fun Run (number of dogs unknown as they were not required to register), bringing close to $2,000 for Shell Beach Elementary. This money will go towards the funding of special events and programs supported by the Shell Beach PTO.
The Fun Run commenced on the sand at Wadsworth Street and went south towards Grand Avenue in Oceano where runners turned back towards Wadsworth Street for a total of 3.1 miles. There was an optional half-way turnaround for anyone not up for the full 3.1 miles. This was an appropriate option considering participants in the run ranged from toddlers in strollers to kindergarteners and adults of all ages and varying athletic abilities.
The law firm of Carmel & Naccasha made a generous donation to help pay for the cost of the event. Carmel & Naccasha is proud to support our local schools and community.
