Don graduated in 1966 from the University of California at Santa Barbara and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1970 from the University of California at Los Angeles. After graduating from law school, Don served in the U.S. Army Security Agency (Electronic Intelligence and Counter Measures) and began private practice in California in 1971. Before joining Carmel & Naccasha, LLP, Don was a partner and shareholder for nearly 17 years at a respected and consistently effective west coast law firm in Los Angeles, specializing in handling a wide variety of civil litigation matters. Prior to that, Don was managing partner and lead trial counsel with his own litigation firm in Los Angeles. Throughout his legal career, he has, almost exclusively, engaged in third-party insurance litigation defense and has handled thousands of cases in all of the courts of southern California. With extensive jury trial experience, he has successfully litigated, through verdict, a broad range of cases and has developed special expertise in the defense of technically "complex" or "impact" litigation (Construction, Design Professional and Medical E&O, Products and Toxic Torts, amongst others). Don has a documented track record of success in defending seven figure exposure matters in all his areas of trial expertise through favorable settlements, summary judgments and jury verdicts. Don has sat as judge pro tem in the Los Angeles Courts and as an appointed arbitrator/mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. He has served as a delegate to the California State Bar Convention and as a member of the Legislative Committee. He has lectured frequently for the Insurance Claims Industry, Construction and Design Professionals industry. Additionally, he is a licensed instrument-rated pilot, author, horseman and traveler. |
